About The Paseo del Rio Association

The Paseo del Rio Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1968 to promote and support the San Antonio River Walk, the number one tourist attraction in Texas.

The association accomplishes this through the production of special events along the River Walk throughout the year and through the publication of Rio Magazine, a monthly visitor magazine distributed to 35,000 each month.

The Association serves as an advocate, facilitator, and moderator among the business, civic, and governmental communities on matters concerning the River Walk.

 
Mission Statement
 
The Paseo del Rio Association is a nonprofit organization founded in 1969 to promote and support the San Antonio River Walk, the number one tourist attraction in Texas.
  1. By producing special events and providing information that attracts visitors and local residents to the San Antonio River Walk.

  2. By advocating the preservation of the River Walk's character and ambiance, as well as the enhancement of the San Antonio River's environmental integrity.

  3. By working with public and private entities to establish sound planning and operational policies for the River Walk.

  4. By providing a forum for businesses, residents, civic and governmental entities to resolve issues concerning the River Walk.

Board of Directors
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors, whose policies are carried out by a 12-person Executive Committee and supported and managed on a day-to-day basis by an Executive Director and a staff of five.

Association Membership
Voting membership in the Association is available at levels ranging from $200 to $1,000 per year. Members of the Association elect the Board of Directors.

River Walk Operator Committee
Direct input into the affairs of the Association is accomplished through the Operator Committee that meets on a monthly basis to discuss maintenance, operation, and management issues affecting the River Walk and its establishments. The Chairman is appointed by the President of the Board of Directors.

Volunteers
The Association also offers an opportunity for the general community to be involved with the River Walk through a volunteer support group. The volunteers support the activities on the River Walk by contributing volunteer hours to the planning and production of special events throughout the year. Volunteer parties and recognition programs are designed to show appreciation for the volunteer group.
